Lindy Writes: "My two children love stories so it was not difficult to think of cake themes that would fit in with the book's title of Storybook Cakes. I really enjoyed putting this collection together so I hope you’ll have as much fun making the cakes as I have done. I have included a range of cakes to appeal to boys and girls both young and old. The sophisticated mermaid combing her hair has been my daughter Charlotte’s favourite right from the pencil sketch stage. My son Tristan on the other hand has been a wonderful source of good ideas and likes all the traditionally boyish cakes in the book with the castle being his absolute favourite. Which will yours be?

Birthdays are very important to children, so to make sure there are cakes to appeal to everyone each cake in the book has a variation. So for example the red train is shown in pink with yellow and pink sweets to appeal more to train mad little girls. Also there are cupcakes decorated to tie in with the cakes theme - these are ideal to give away in party bags as each young party guest has their own cake! Some of the cakes are quite involved with lots of detail. I have done this on purpose to show you what is possible and to give you ideas but if you are short of time simply take the elements you like and leave out the others.
